I’ve been married 5 years. Over 5 years really- 5 years and 4 or so months. So why does this matter? Because as Jeff was rummaging through a filing cabinet for blank envelopes he found 32 written, sealed, labeled and unmailed thank you notes from our wedding. Thank you notes for these people, and these people, and these people, the high school boyfriend’s parents, my aunts who came to the wedding from California and Washington, and two people which are now dead! Yes, I do feel like a schmuck! Schmuck- from the Yiddish shmok meaning “fool,” “contemptible person,” “a clumsy or stupid person,” or an “oaf.” Did I mention that it’s my filing cabinet, so I can pretty much guarantee it’s my fault? Yep.
Etiquette says send out thank you notes within 3-6 months after a wedding. So I’ve clearly passed the “recommended” time frame and there’s no, “but if you are a moron who loses the thank you notes” footnote to etiquette. So I figure blogging my idiocracy in this matter was a good first step. But what would Miss Manners say now?

I say send them now and blame it on the US Postal Service--"those people are CRAZY!!"
I'd send them too - maybe not the people who have died though. You can tell them thanks in your prayers for free!

I did the same thing!!! We had a stack of thank you notes that were all written, sealed, stamped, and addressed. Yeah, so why didn't they get put in the mail? Who knows? Probably because like you, they got misplaced in a random box and forgotten about. We actually found them like a year ago, but I just haven't been brave enough to send them, even though I really am thankful for the nice things people gave us. Let me know what you do!
Well, I'd better get my dang thank you note, or you can forget about getting any presents from me again. Ha! No, really, who even remembers if they got a thank you note or not? It's nice to get them, but we don't sit around and stew if we don't get one, do we?
Now it is going to cost you twice as much to mail them. Back then it was probably only 20 cents. Mich is right those postal people are very very slow. Our carrier gets everything mixed up at least once a week because he is talking on the phone the whole time he is working. We can hear him coming up the driveway yapping to someone all the time.
